Thank you for visiting my website. My name is Mrs. Maria Calhoun and this is my 12th year as an educator. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and English from Penn State University. I went on to earn a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Scranton University. I am currently in the process of earning my second Master's degree at Montclair State University (where I also teach freshmen Writing courses in the evenings).
Although I began my career at another district, I've spent the majority of my years teaching at Belleville (this is my 10th year here). I first started at BMS as a maternity leave replacement, but enjoyed my time so much that decided to become a permanent member of the Belleville faculty. I taught 8th grade ELA at BMS prior to transferring to the high school as a 10th grade English teacher. Most recently, I was honored to be chosen as the new Dean of Students (in addition to the current Dean of Students, Mr. John Barriento).
When I'm not at work, I spend my days running around after my two, young, toddlers (Cole and Chase). We're very busy coloring, watching strange shark songs, and practicing the ABCs :).
If there is an issue, I encourage the students to come see me and we'll figure it out together. Please feel free to reach out to me via email, phone, or in person. I look forward to another fun year at BHS.
I am available via email - please allow me 24 hours to respond (although I always try to get back to you faster).
